What are GIVE’s Goals?
  • ● Engaging students, faculty, and staff from many different fields
  • ● Promoting social entrepreneurship and innovation between disciplines
  • ● Partnering with established organizations that are working on issues relevant to sustainability
  • ● Educating and training Chapter members and their community on green technology and sustainable living
  • ● Providing volunteer opportunities benefiting the environment and society while complementing and
supporting existing campus community service programs
  • ● Connecting local chapters with global leaders through symposiums and forums
    ● Marshalling the resources of the university and community to address the needs as identified by our
      membership

How? The basic infrastructure of each Chapter will be nearly identical, although the direction and actions of the Chapters will vary widely from university to university. Members will come from all departments on campus, with staff and faculty assisting in identifying potential members and students helping bring in interested advisors.  The GIVE Chapter will use the principles of entrepreneurship to create a think tank focused on environmental, economic, and social issues.  Students, administrators, and professors will be able to give back to their neighborhoods and harness their resources to make the community in which their campus is located a better place than they originally found it.

Forums
: Regular Chapter meetings and periodic forums will create an atmosphere for our diverse membership to brainstorm on the needs of both their local and global community and how their particular assets and talents can be used to address these challenges.  GIVE headquarters will support the Chapters with professional advice, access to symposiums featuring leading experts, and technical knowledge.  Each campus will be autonomous, though all will be encouraged to create an environment where the students can directly engage and partner with business interests, social entities, and political figures on the topic of sustainability.

Chapter Formation
: Each Chapter will have the standard cabinet governorship of an elected President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  The Chapters will communicate with headquarters through an appointed Ambassador, allowing for resource sharing and two-way dissemination of information.  A faculty advisor will provide connection to the university, and if enough staff and faculty members are interested they can form an advisory board.  If the university does not already have a sustainability committee, then this advisory board and the GIVE Chapter will assist in forming one.  If there is already a chancellor’s sustainability committee, our members will support it with student feedback and outreach.
