Open Position: Executive Director

 

Summary:

 

Seeking a seasoned executive director to lead the Green Institute for Village Empowerment (GIVE) and its main project, the Green Valley Initiative. This is a salaried position that will require flexible hours, including evening and weekend responsibilities.

 

GIVE is a non-profit, charitable public benefit corporation formed in late 2006 to expand sustainable communities through education, information, research and initiatives that convert concepts to action. The organization teaches business, the public and youth about the economic and environmental profitability of a green future.

 

The Green Valley Initiative was created in 2007 to transform the Inland Empire, the fastest growing region in California, into a leader of green and clean technologies.  Its mission: to create jobs, industry, commerce, and a higher quality of life to the region.  Enhancing the region will help California’s economy and help preserve California’s beautiful, yet fragile environment.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Effectively develop, document and manage GIVE’s business functions, including the preparation and management of budgets, reports, policies, and plans.
  • Develop, monitor and evaluate all operations and programs of the organization, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors when changes are warranted.
  • Communicate effectively with the Board of Directors to fully understand and promote the policies and goals of the Board, and to keep the Board informed on challenges and issues facing the organization.
  • Plan, oversee, and personally conduct fundraising activities, membership development, intern recruitment, donations, and other assistance from individuals, foundations, corporations and agencies.
  • Work with consultants and marketing agency to communicate effectively with the public and media to promote GIVE’s goals and programs.
  • Hire, supervise, schedule, assist, evaluate and provide for training of staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Develop, document, and coordinate efforts needed from volunteers, donors, directors, consultants and cooperating entities to achieve maximum effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain personal relationships with important donors and grantors.

 

Requirements:

 

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in business, non-profit management, fundraising, or equivalent field directly related to GIVE’s mission
  • A minimum of five years experience in the operation and management of a public, non-profit or related organization
  • Must have a verifiable non-profit track record, preferably in Southern California
  • Experience with managing fundraising including personal contacts with donors, grant writing, and direct mail campaigns.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining a supporting membership base for a non-profit organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Must be able to make persuasive presentations to groups.
  • Experience in personnel management and development, especially with team-oriented employee empowered approach.
  • Ability to prepare and monitor concise, accurate and understandable reports on GIVE’s initiatives.
  • Ability to prepare long range strategic and tactical plans to grow and improve a non-profit organization.
