GIVE on Campus
GIVE is coming to a campus near you! We’re busy founding student organizations to help empower students and assist universities with their existing “greening” efforts. Our mission is simple: to foster working relationships between students and professors of varied disciplines, businesses, and government at all levels to raise awareness and promote the advancement of sustainability.
The result will be innovation and empowerment. Our members are stepping up as leaders within their disciplines, while cooperating as a team across all branches of learning. When this environment of social entrepreneurship is focused on creating a sustainable present and future, the possibilities are limitless.
The Green Valley Initiative
GIVE is the sponsor of the Green Valley Initiative, a regional economic development plan focused on bringing green technologies, renewable energy, alternative transportation and sustainable lifestyles to the Inland Empire, a region comprising Riverside and San Bernardino counties – the fastest growing region in California and in much of the U.S. for mote information go to www.GreenValleyNow.org
Symposiums
GIVE hosts an ongoing series of monthly symposiums featuring prominent people in the fields of sustainability. These informative presentations can be viewed live at the Krikorian Theater at Dos Lagos, or via the web at www.giveforthefuture.org
Green Valley Earth Festival
GIVE is the proud sponsor of Riverside County’s largest Earth Day celebration, an event designed to educate and encourage the public on issues related to sustainability. The annual celebration features vending booths from environmental organizations, “green” businesses, and public agencies charged with overseeing local water, habitat and other environmental resources. A regional speech contest and solar car race for students helps to educate today’s youth about the need to plan for a sustainable future.
Scholarships
The Green Institute for Village Empowerment (GIVE) has launched a monthly essay contest designed to heighten public awareness and reward students who demonstrate a keen understanding of the concepts of sustainability.
The Green Idea Challenge will award a $500 scholarship each month to the writer of the best essay submitted from among college students throughout the world. To enter, students can log on to GiveForTheFuture.org to watch experts speak on today’s environmental challenges and the sustainable solutions available to address them. Past speakers at the GIVE symposiums have included California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, and S. David Freeman, president of Los Angeles Harbor Commission.
Each month, GIVE offers a $500 scholarship to those who enter the Green Idea Water Challenge and participate in a monthly symposium. Individuals who are interested in this month’s scholarship opportunity must write a 500-word max essay or poem, create a video (3-minute max) or use photography on the “Solutions to our Waterless Future.” Participants can view the symposium in-person or via webcast. The GIVE $500 scholarship is open to the public and will be offered on a monthly basis, based on the themes of subsequent symposia
Symposiums can be viewed either in-person at the Krikorian Theatres at Dos Lagos, in Corona, Calif., or on line at www.GiveForTheFuture.org.
