Sustainable developer builds california climate action registry into plans
LOS ANGELES, California – Temescal Canyon Properties 8, LLC (TCP), developers of the award-winning, sustainable mixed-use community of Dos Lagos in Corona, Calif., has joined the California Climate Action Registry (Registry), whose membership base is comprised of a distinguished group of organizations demonstrating leadership by voluntarily taking action on climate change.
A subsidiary of SE Corporation, the work of Temescal Canyon Properties has been used as a national model of brownfield development and reclamation. Dos Lagos is a walkable, 543-acre community of residential, commercial, entertainment and Class A office uses, an 18-hole golf course, business conference hotel and other amenities surrounding the “heart” of the development: the project’s signature bamboo-covered bridge spanning two lakes (“Dos Lagos”), the namesakes of the community.
The project involved the reclamation of an abandoned mining pit, restoration of the Temescal Creek, preservation of historic California Live Oaks and other efforts to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions.
As a member, TCP will work with the Registry to annually track, report and certify its greenhouse gas emissions, the main drivers of climate change.
“Our sustainable goals and objectives are reflected in Dos Lagos, which has become one of my main missions, along with forming the ‘Green Valley Initiative’ that includes San Bernardino and Riverside Counties,” said Ali Sahabi, Founder and CEO of SE Corporation, the parent company of TCP and Dos Lagos. “We need to practice what we preach by forming public-private partnerships to develop communities that are sustainable through green buildings, technologies and programs.”
The Registry, created by the California Legislature in 2000, is a nonprofit public/private partnership that helps companies and organizations throughout the United States to track, publicly report and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The results are certified by independent third-parties to ensure compliance with Registry protocols and standardization across participants and sectors. The Registry has been widely recognized as a gold standard for public reporting of greenhouse gases.
“Connecting our communities with the natural environment is very important,” said Diane Wittenberg, president of the California Climate Action Registry. “Temescal Canyon Properties is a model for sustainable development practices and we are excited to welcome them to the Registry.”
The California Climate Action Registry is a non-profit public/private partnership that serves as a voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) registry to protect, encourage, and promote early actions to reduce GHG emissions. Over 300 major companies, cities, government agencies and NGOs measure and publicly report their GHG emissions through the Registry. www.climateregistry.org
